OSHA GUIDANCE

What OSHA Says About Computer-Based Training

OSHA recognizes that online, self-paced training can be a valuable part of an effective safety program. However, OSHA has made it clear that using computer-based training alone is not sufficient to meet most training requirements. To be compliant, OSHA requires that online training must be supplemented in two key ways:

1. Access to a Qualified Trainer

Workers must have the opportunity to ask questions of, and receive responses from, a qualified trainer in a timely manner. This can be facilitated through a telephone hotline or an interactive computer program.

2. Hands on Training

Online training must include hands-on components to allow employees to interact with equipment and practice safety procedures under the supervision of a qualified trainer.

The goal is to ensure the training results in a mastery of the training material, which is often impossible to achieve through a purely online format.

Need OSHA-Compliant Training?

Our training programs blend interactive online modules with mandatory hands-on practice and direct access to a qualified trainer to meet OSHA requirements.
